Senior Al-Qaeda commander Asim Omar killed in US raid on Taliban positions
One of terrorist group Al-Qaeda’s most senior commanders has been killed on a joint US-Afghanistan raid.
Asim Omar was killed alongside six other terrorists during the raid on the Taliban in Afghanistan’s Helmand province on September 23, it was revealed on Tuesday.
Omar worked as head of operations for the terror outfit’s South Asia division, and was embedded with Taliban fighters when he was wiped out.
Also killed was courier to Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri and 22 other Taliban fighters, Afghanistan’s National Directorate for Security said.
A large warehouse of supplies and equipment was obliterated in the same air strike.
A spokesman explained: ‘They had been embedded inside the Taliban compound in the Taliban stronghold of Musa Qala.
