Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly neutralized scores of Boko Haram terrorists disturbing Borno State communities.
OPHK said in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday that it ambushed and killed members of the dreaded group while raiding forests in the Lawan Minari axis, Konduga Local Council along Maiduguri/Damaturu road in the state.
According to the Theatre Commander, OPHK Maj-Gen. Christopher Musa, the troops recovered three gun trucks after the terrorists torched two trucks and a petrol tanker in the village.
Musa said in Maiduguri yesterday that the terrorists were already moving away from the Sambisa Forest to cross the road into Sasawa Forest in Yobe State.
Stating the operation was carried out by troops of the 29 Brigade of OPHK, the Major General said: “The ground troops pursued them along the bush tracks, while the Tucano fighter jet was engaged to demobilise the trucks, before killing some of the terrorists.”
He said some of the terrorists, however, escaped the raid with gunshot wounds in the forest in Yobe.
Naija News recalls that a week ago, some hunters assisting the military in the fight against terrorism in the North-East killed a factional commander of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
It was gathered that the local security men had engaged the terrorists in a gun duel in Shaffa Taku, a village in Damboa Local Government Area of the state.
Shaffa Taku, Naija News understands is located in the heart of Sambisa forest, which houses Boko Haram terrorists.
The hunters according to the testimony of the Chairman and Commander of hunters and vigilantes (Sarkin Baka) in the region, Mohammed Shawulu-Yohanna, received information about the movement of the terrorists and went after them in the bush.
Yohanna who spoke on the telephone with Channels Television said they successfully killed the terrorist’s commander and his deputy in the exchange of gunfire.
He also noted that an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle used by the terrorists were recovered and would soon be handed over to the Nigerian military in Biu.
