Terror organization: Hezbollah

Role: Lebanese Druze terrorist, who participated in the attack in Nahariya on April 22, 1979, in which members of the Haran family and the policeman Eliyahu Shahar were murdered. He was convicted of murdering two Israeli citizens and one police officer, kidnapping and attempted murder, and was sentenced to five life sentences and 47 years in prison. On July 16, 2008, he was released and returned to Lebanon, as part of a deal with Hezbollah that included the return of the bodies of the kidnapped Israeli soldiers Eldad Regev and Udi Goldwasser.

After his release, Kuntar returned to engage in terrorism on behalf of Hezbollah. In 2015 he was declared an “international terrorist” by the United States. On December 19, 2015, he was killed in an explosion in Germana, Syria, during the civil war raging in the country. Two days later the Free Syrian Army accepted responsibility for his death. However, Hezbollah denies this, and according to them he was killed when the building he was in was hit by a missile launched by the Israeli Air Force.

Kuntar is a Hezbollah operative who participated in a Nahariya terror attack that killed five Israelis for what he was imprisoned. He was released from an Israeli prison in 2008.

Following his return to Lebanon, he joined Hezbollah and “has since emerged as one of the group’s most visible and popular spokesmen.

Since Kuntar’s return, he has also played an operational role, with the assistance of Iran and Syria, in building up Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure in the Golan Heights”.
