Salahaddin police warns of Islamic State plot to attack Tuz Khurmatu

The Salahaddin Police Directorate has warned of a plot by the Islamic State (IS) to attack the disputed Kurdish town of Tuz Khurmatu and other surrounding areas.

According to a statement, a copy of which was shared with BasNews, the extremist group is reportedly planning to carry out attacks on the security forces in the towns of Sileman Bag and Amirly in the upcoming days.

The statement, which said to have intelligence information on the plot, further called for preparations to foil the possible terrorist activities by the insurgents.

The Islamic State has lately reorganized itself in certain areas in Iraq, while its sleeper cells have continued to impose threat to the security forces and civilians in the region.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned last week that the militant group is now stronger than it once was in certain areas.
