Russian FSB Accuses Zelensky’s Deputy of Plotting Terrorist Attack in Crimea

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has accused Roman Mashovets, Deputy Head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, of orchestrating a terrorist plot in Crimea that was reportedly planned for 2023.

Explosives From Europe to Russia

According to the FSB and Tass, the attack was to be executed using explosives imported from Europe.

The FSB claims to have intercepted preparations for the attack, which was intended to target senior officials in Crimea.

The agency reported that it had uncovered a supply channel in Saint Petersburg that was bringing explosives and detonators from Europe into Russia. This channel, the FSB says, was also linked to a similar scheme uncovered in Crimea in April 2023.

Detained Suspects

The FSB alleges that Mashovets was overseeing the operation, which involved Ukrainian military intelligence.

The Russian authorities have already detained suspects related to the plot and have issued a warrant for Mashovets, who is now wanted for his alleged role in coordinating the attack.

In July of the previous year, the FSB had reported that Mashovets was a key figure in a Ukrainian intelligence network plotting attacks against high-profile Crimean officials, including Sergey Aksyonov, the head of Crimea, Vladimir Konstantinov, the chairman of the Crimean parliament, and Yanina Pavlenko, the mayor of Yalta.
