Russia’s Federal Security Service prevented Islamic State terrorist attacks in Moscow
Russia’s federal security service FSB has prevented terrorist attacks that were being plotted by members of the international terrorist organization Islamic State. One of them offered armed resistance and was liquidated in the Astrakhan Region, and another was detained in Moscow, the FSB’s public relations center told TASS on Thursday.
“The federal security service has quashed preparations for terrorist attacks by members of the international terrorist organization Islamic State, outlawed in Russia. On orders from the ringleaders of the terrorist organization two Russian citizens were plotting a simultaneous attack against residents of Moscow and the Astrakhan Region with firearms and blade weapons in crowded places,” the FSB said.
At the moment of detention in the Astrakhan Region one of the criminals offered armed resistance.
“The FSB’s special forces returned fire. The terrorist was neutralized. Another member of the cell was detained in Moscow. Neither security service personnel nor civilians were hurt,” the FSB said.
The terrorists’ homes were searched and automatic rifles, ammunition, a hand grenade F-1 and religious extremist literature were confiscated. Criminal cases were opened over participation in the activity of a terrorist organization.
