The high level of terrorists’ activities persists in South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East as those regions account for around 83% of all terrorism activities, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said at a meeting with secretaries of security councils of SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) countries in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

Amid the mounting geopolitical instability, terrorism remains one of the key threats to international security, he noted.

“The high level of terrorist activities persists in South Asia, on the African continent, and in the Middle East, which account for 83% of all terrorism activities,” Patrushev said.

Meanwhile, such SCO member-states as India and Pakistan, as well as Afghanistan, are also on the list of the countries most hit by terrorism, he said, adding that in this respect, it is necessary for the organization to effectively apply legal and contractual instruments it has.

“We welcome the agreement of the program for the cooperation of SCO member-states in tackling terrorism, separatism, and extremism for 2022-2024 that will be approved at the upcoming meeting of the Council of heads of SCO member-countries,” Patrushev noted.
