Reversing Biden’s decision, Trump puts Cuba back on state sponsors of terrorism list
Newly sworn-in US President Donald Trump on Monday reversed the Biden administration’s recent decision to remove Cuba from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism, the White House said.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during his confirmation hearing that the administration planned to reverse the removal of Cuba from the terrorism list and reimpose other restrictions on the island nation.
This move was expected as Trump had vowed to revoke the decision and place Cuba back on list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Earlier, the Joe Biden administration had announced plans to lift the restrictions as part of a deal to free political prisoners in Cuba. Following the announcement, Cuban authorities began releasing detainees. The prisoners released also included some who were arrested during the 2021 protests over economic hardships and government policies.
