Retired teacher charged with giving support and possessing ISIS-related material

A retired teacher was brought to the Sessions Court here today on two charges of giving support and possessing material which is connected to the ISIS terrorist group early this month.

Abu Hasan Chan Abdullah, 63, nodded his head to indicate he understood when the charge was read out in the presence of Judge Syed Faisal Syed Amir. No plea was taken as the case came under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

For the first and second charges, Abu Hasan was charged with knowingly giving support and possessing material connected to the Daesh group, using the social media application, Facebook, under the name Abu Hasan Chan.

He was charged with commiting both offences at the Counter Terrorism, Special Branch office of the Malaysia Police Headquarters, Bukit Aman here at 10 am on Aug 1.
