Regime helicopters target Islamic State hideouts in the Syrian desert

SOHR sources reported that four regime helicopters have targeted caves, bunkers and positions that ISIS members are hiding in the Syrian desert and the surrounding areas of Athriya road at Al-Raqqa-Hama-Aleppo triangle.

This comes amid the escalation of ISIS cells activities in the Syrian desert and in areas under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in light of the latest developments in the vicinity of Ghuwayran prison in Al-Hasakah.

Yesterday, reliable sources told SOHR that ISIS members attacked military posts of Iranian-backed local militiamen in Jozif area in Al-Mayadeen desert in eastern Deir Ezzor this morning. Violent clashes erupted between both sides and lasted for hours, but no casualties were reported.

A day earlier, Observatory sources reported that regime forces and their backed militiamen withdrew from some positions in “Point VII” area in Al-Rasafa desert, south of Al-Raqqa.

This development followed ongoing attacks by ISIS fighters on those sites since Saturday morning, along with the ongoing confrontations in the vicinity of “Ghuwayran- Al-Sina’a” prison on the southern outskirts of Al-Hasakah city.

Meanwhile, Russian fighter jets carried out intensive airstrikes on ISIS hideouts in Al-Rasafa desert since early morning, amid confirmed reports of casualties.
