Polish authorities detained Lebanese terrorist suspect
Poland’s Border Guard and Internal Security Agency (ABW) detained, on April 16, a Lebanese citizen suspected of terrorist activities, the spokesperson of the Minister-Special Services Coordinator, Stanisław Żaryn, said on Monday.
According to ABW, the foreigner planned to organise a network, in Poland and other EU countries, aimed at carrying out terrorist attacks in Western European countries.
Żaryn said information gathered by the Agency indicated that the man had connections with terrorists from the so-called Islamic State who died during fighting with coalition forces in Syria and Iraq.
He also noted that the Lebanese suspect actively used the internet as a means to communicate with the structures of the Islamic State and individuals associated with this organisation who resided in EU countries. He also financially supported members of these organisations stationed in Syria.
In accordance with the court’s decision, the Lebanese was taken to a guarded center for foreigners in Białystok, eastern Poland.
