Two Iraqi policemen killed in armed attack by Islamic State terrorists on security checkpoint
Two Iraqi policemen were killed Sunday in an armed attack by Islamic State on a security checkpoint in Diyala province, a well-informed source was quoted as saying.
Speaking to Mawazin News, the source said that “Islamic State militants attacked a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Khanaqin district in northeastern Diyala.”
According to the source, two policemen were killed as a result of the attack.
Ambulances carried the bodies into the forensic medicine department, the source added.
In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.
