ISIS kills one policeman and injures six civilians in Northern Diyala

The Islamic State (IS) insurgents killed one Iraqi policeman, while wounding six civilians, in a mortar attack on Wednesday evening in Qara Tapa district, northern Diyala province, locals reported.

Explaining to Kurdistan 24, Mohammed Omar, the chief for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Qara Tapa, said that among the injured are three women and children.

Three women and three children were injured in the attack, Omer said, pointing out that two of the young victims were taken to Sulaimaniya province due to their critical medical condition.

The Islamic State is expected to lose all its territories in neighboring Syria as the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has intensified its efforts to liberate the last enclave of the militant group in Baghouz.

However, the extremist group’s sleeper cells are still active in most liberated areas in Iraq and continue to target the security forces and civilians.
