Police nab five Daesh terror suspects in southern Türkiye
Police arrested five Daesh terror suspects in an anti-terror operation in southern Türkiye, security sources said on Friday.
Police teams conducted the operation in Mersin province to arrest six suspects who were involved in armed activities within the terror group and had connections with overseas members of it, according to the sources, who requested anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
During the operation, five foreign suspects were arrested, and numerous cutting tools and digital materials were seized, the sources said.
The hunt for a suspect is still underway, they added.
The operation, supported by drones, saw the participation of a significant number of police officers. Special operations police forces were stationed at the entrances and exits of the operation areas, equipped with long-barreled firearms to ensure security.
In 2013, Türkiye became one of the first countries to declare Daesh a terrorist organization.
The country has since been attacked by the terror group multiple times, with over 300 people killed and hundreds more injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed attacks.
In response, Türkiye launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
