Police authorities foiled another attack on police station in Niger state
Dozens of terrorists are said to have been neutralised when they attempted to invade the Bangi Police Station in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State last Wednesday.
It was learnt that the terrorists had surrounded the police station and were about to unleash terror on the security operatives but met stiff resistance which led to the gunmen being killed.
However, it was learnt that a policeman, whose identity was not disclosed, and was injured in the attack but later died.
During the counter offensive, it was gathered that 50 motorcycles used for the operation by the terrorists were recovered with some of the gunmen escaping with gunshot injuries.
The state government confirmed the incident, which came barely 48 hours after a Divisional Police Officer, Umaru Dakinkagari, a Chief Superintendent of Police; two other policemen and four men of the local security outfit were killed when terrorists invaded the Nasko Police Station in Magama LGA.
In the statement, the state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, commiserated with the deceased policeman’s family, and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.
Bello in the statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mrs. Mary Noel Berje, acknowledged the dedication of men of the conventional and unconventional security agencies in the fight against terrorism in the state, promising that the administration will continue to give them the needed support to succeed in their assignments.
“It is soul-soothing to know that the criminals had a bad outing against innocent lives,” he said.
The governor also reassured the people of the state and the security agencies involved in the fight against terrorists of his unwavering determination and unalloyed support to ensure that terrorism ends soon.
