Maute group had planned bigger attack with ASG, BIFF –ARMM governor
A bigger attack had allegedly been planned by the Maute group, along with the Abu Sayyaf and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, ARMM Gov. Mujiv Sabbihi Hataman claimed.
A report by Connie Sison in Balitanghali on Thursday said that the groups had originally planned a deadlier attack before the start of Ramadan.
The plan was thwarted by the military operations against Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon, which were launched early in the year.
The Maute group and government troops have been engaged in violent encounters in Marawi City in Mindanao since last Tuesday.
Residents claimed to have sighted Hapilon in the area.
President Rodrigo Duterte has since declared the entire Mindanao under martial law.
