Peshmerga forces foiled Islamic State infiltration between Diyala and Kurdistan
A security source said that Peshmerga forces foiled on Thursday an infiltration attempt by ISIS elements between Diyala Governorate and Kurdistan Region.
“Peshmerga forces detected, at dawn today, a number of ISIS elements in the outskirts of Kola Joe region, north of Jalawla district, Diyala Governorate by thermal cameras, shot them and forced them to flee, “noting that” the area that witnessed infiltration lies within the borders of Kalar district of Kurdistan Region, the source told Shafaq News Agency.
“Peshmerga forces, through the monitoring and tracing detachments, foiled during the past periods, several attempts by ISIS infiltrators towards the northern borders of Khanaqin,” noting that “the threat of the organization still exists between the borders of Khanaqin and Kalar and requires security caution and proactive operations,” the source added .
It is noteworthy that the border areas between northern Diyala and Garmiyan Unit of Kurdistan are witnessing remarkable activity by armed organizations and security voids that have caused several “terrorist” incidents as a result of the withdrawal of Peshmerga from its districts after the events of October 2017.
