Peshmerga foiled Islamic State terror attack in Kifri
The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs said on Sunday night (November 28) that Peshmerga forces foiled an attack by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Kifri district.
The ministry said in a statement that the militants attacked on a guard post of the 17th infantry Peshmerga forces around 10:00 p.m.
It said that Peshmerga responded heavily to the militants.
“The situation is under the control of Peshmerga forces now,” it added.
On Saturday night, five Peshmerga members were killed and four others were wounded in an ISIS attack in Kalar’s Kulajo sub-district.
In December, 2017, federal security forces, in cooperation with the Peshmerga and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and aided by Coalition airstrikes, declared victory over ISIS.
Since then, the militant group has resorted to guerrilla hit-and-run tactics, but remains a potent threat in some parts of the country.
