Pakistani soldier killed in explosion of an improvised explosive device near a military check post in South Waziristan
A soldier was killed in the explosion of an improvised explosive device near a military check post in South Waziristan district of Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, an army statement said Wednesday night.
The security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend any terrorists found in the area, following the killing of the 26-year-old soldier, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations said in the statement.
“Pakistan Army is determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and the sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement added.
Pakistan has conducted a series of military operations against terrorist groups in South Waziristan that borders Afghanistan.
Although the area has mostly been pacified, remnants of terrorist groups still manage to launch attacks on security forces sporadically.
