Pakistani police authorities foiled terror plot and arrested three terrorists
Police in Rawalpindi district of Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province foiled a terror bid to attack the Islamabad Stock Exchange and other important government installations in the capital and arrested three militants, officials said.
The counter-terrorism department of police (CTD) carried out a search operation in Islamabad by acting on an intelligence tip-off regarding presence of suspected militants involved in a recent terrorist attack in Rawalpindi, the CTD officials told media on Monday.
Police also recovered arms and ammunition from the arrested militants who confessed their involvement in the terrorist attack which left 25 people injured in Rawalpindi earlier on Sunday.
The militants, whose identities have not been revealed yet, also told police that they were planning to attack the Islamabad Stock Exchange to send shock waves to the country’s economy.
Further investigation from the militants is underway, after which the police will reach out to their facilitators and accomplices, the CTD official added.
Earlier in June this year, militants stormed a stock exchange building in the country’s southern port city of Karachi. The attack was foiled by the security staff of the building, police and paramilitary troops who killed all the attackers.
