ISIS night operations in April have killed over 35 Syrian soldiers

The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) has recently stepped up their attacks across Syria, targeting the supply routes of both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

In the month of April alone, the Islamic State has carried out at least a half dozen attacks along the Syrian Arab Army’s supply route from Palmyra to Deir Ezzor.

As a result of these ambushes, over 35 Syrian Arab Army soldiers have been killed and another ten military personnel have captured by the Islamic State.

These ISIS attacks have forced the Syrian Arab Army to send a large number of reinforcements to the Al-Mayadeen countryside to help protect the international highway.

Protecting the international highway is imperative for the Syrian military because they are preparing to reopen this roadway that connects Damascus and Baghdad.

However, if these attacks continue, the reopening of the international highway may be delayed, which will also prevent Iran from transporting oil to Syria.

Syria is currently facing its worst fuel crisis since the country achieved its independence from France; this blockade has been imposed by western nations on the Syrian government.
