In 2010, he tried to leave Britain for Pakistan, but was stopped by police on suspicion that he planned to head to Afghanistan.
As of September 2015, Omar, also know as, Abu Sa’eed al-Britani, was considered to be one of ISIL’s most prominent recruiters.
As an ISIL fighter, he offered tips on evading British security to individuals interested in leaving the United Kingdom to fight with ISIL.
In July 2015, Hussain confirmed that he had joined ISIL and was in Aleppo Province, Syria.
Via his blog, he provided guidance about traveling to Syria to fight with ISIL and described alternate occupations to support the group for those unable to fight.
Hussain has been censured by IS media operatives for his open online social media presence, which is banned by the group.
