Officer injured as police repel Boko Haram attack in Borno
Police personnel attached to Magumeri Division in Borno State have reportedly repelled Boko Haram/ISWAP attack in the early hours of Sunday.
It was gathered that scores of armed terrorists, suspected to be members of the Islamic State of the West African Province, (ISWAP), faction stormed the Divisional command of Police in the town in a convoy of gun trucks and motorcycles at about 00:35 am.
Security Sources also told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, that the attack triggered a fierce gun battle between the police personnel and the terrorists which lasted until 1:30 am.
The sources said that the Divisional Officer and his men vehemently resisted and foiled the terrorists’ plan of overrunning them.
One Inspector identified as Bitrus Umaru was said to have sustained a gunshot wound, one Hilux patrol vehicle was carted away while another gulf car belonging to one of the police personnel was set ablaze by the invading terrorists.
