Nottingham supermarket worker planned to join ISIS terrorist group

A supermarket worker who had copies of a bomb-making manual and was planning to join a group linked to the Islamic State has been found guilty of terrorism offences.
Ryan Counsell, a Muslim convert from Nottingham, bought equipment and flights to travel to the Philippines to joined a group affiliated to the jihadist movement.

It is said that he was in the “advanced stages of planning” to visit a remote part of the south-east Asian country.

He had also bought military equipment to “engage in combat or support an extremist group.”

The 28-year-old was convicted of possessing documents containing terrorist information and engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts at Woolwich Crown Court in London.

During his trial, in which he denied the charges, he claimed he watched Isis videos to learn more about propaganda and stated that he wanted to create a “catalogue of propaganda” online, the BBC reported.

Counsell also added that he found the videos “interesting” and wanted to write articles about them.
