Nine people arrested in Turkey over ties to the Islamic State terrorist group
At least nine foreign nationals were arrested on Tuesday in central Turkey over suspected ties to the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group.
A police source told Yeni Safak that the nine people were arrested during a counter-terrorism operation in the province of Kayseri, as cited by Iraqi News.
The report added that the nine people were involved in terrorist activities in both Iraq and Syria.
The Islamic State attacked Iraq and Syria in 2014. It overran a vast area in both countries. It was, however, declared defeated in the former in late 2017, and in the latter in March 2019.
