Nigerian Army clahed with ISIS-linked group Boko Haram and liberated five villages from the terrorists

The Nigerian Armed Forces carried out a major offensive against Boko Haram insurgents on the Northeastern border of the country, thus forcing the ISIL-linked militants to retreat further into the Lake Chad region.

Led by the 7th Brigade of the Special Forces and elements of the 8th Division, government troops dislodged a militant gathering from the village of Dawashi, Al Masdar reported.

Following the succesful assault and subsequent capture of the village, six ISIL insurgents lay dead on the battlefield while two more were taken prisoner. A couple motorcycles were also seized, abandoned by the ISIL’s franchise branch in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, leading a seperate offensive on a neighboring axis, units of the 145th Battalion and 5th Brigade captured four villages, namely: Gashigar, Asaga, Bukarti and Kanama.

At the latter village, two militants were killed while Boko Haram fled entirely from the former villages, thereby restoring them under government control.

Upon moving into the aforementioned ISIL-held areas, the Nigerian Army seized one AK-47 rifle, four magazines and four motorcycles.

A rival Al-Qaeda group from Mali also conducted its first raid against the Nigerian Army earlier this week, targeting an outpost in the neighboring country of Niger.
