Niger worst hit by terrorism, says gov
The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has said that his state is one of the worst hit states by terror activities.
The governor said the situation in his state could be worse than that of Borno State.
Bago said this on Thursday when he received a delegation from the Victims Support Fund at the Government House, Minna.
Expressing concern over the huge negative impact of the activities of terrorists in the state, he said, “The situation could be worse than that of Borno State.”
He added, “The cause can be linked to the size of the state, arable land, bodies of water and illegal mining activities in the state.”
While appreciating the VSF for coming to the aid of those affected by the nefarious activities of terrorists, he called on the Federal Government, international development partners, and all well-meaning Nigerians for more support.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Prof. Nana Tanko, who doubles as the Executive Director, VSF, said they were in the state to complement the state government’s effort in the area of welfare for victims of terrorism.
She said after assessing the situation in the state, three local government areas were identified for intervention, which are Shiroro, Lapai and Kontagora.
Nana also revealed that the organisation noticed a shortage in the food supply in the three local government areas and disclosed that of the 3,000 households, 1,000 from each of the selected local governments would benefit from the intervention.
“Food items to be distributed are 10kg of rice, beans, vegetable oil, salt, and sugar. Similar interventions have been done in some other states of the federation,” she added.
