Nationwide manhunt for escaped prisoner who dressed as chef and clung to delivery van
The hunt for a terror suspect accused of leaving fake bombs at a military base has entered its second day.
Daniel Abed Khalife, 21, escaped from HMP Wandsworth in London on Wednesday, September 6 after clinging to the underside of a food delivery van.
He was awaiting trial for charges relating to terrorism and Official Secrets Act offences, and questions are being asked over whether he was being held at the appropriate facility, the BBC reports.
It’s thought he might be trying to leave the country, leading to extra security checks at airports and ports.
The Times says there was a one hour delay between prison officers noticing Mr Khalife was missing and getting in contact with the police.
Mr Khalife is described as 6ft 2ins tall and was last seen wearing a prison-issue chef’s uniform of a white T-shirt, red and white chequered trousers and brown steel toe cap boots.
The Metropolitan Police have said he poses a ‘low risk’ to the public but people have been urged not to approach him and to call 999 instead.
