National Investigation Agency summoned leading cardiologist for questioning for alleged terror financing
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday summoned leading cardiologist Delhi-based Dr. Upendra Kaul for questioning for alleged terror financing.
A senior NIA official familiar with the development said the cardiologist was summoned by NIA for questioning in a 2017 terror funding case, where “he (Kaul) has been summoned as a witness.”
The NIA’s summon comes just days after Kaul had criticised the Centre’s decision to read down Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
When contacted, Kaul told Mint, “Why are you so worried about the summons? There is no reason to worry…it was sent by mistake.”
One of India’s leading cardiologists, Kaul is currently the chairman of Batra Heart Centre and the Dean Academics and Research of BHMRC. He established cardiology units at several hospitals in the government and private sector, including at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and Fortis chain of hospitals.
