NAF airstrikes kill ISWAP, Boko Haram terrorists in Borno
Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said that military airstrikes have dislodged Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the Bama-Mafa axis of Borno State.
NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, stated, yesterday, in Maiduguri: “The terrorists were dislodged by the Air Component, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), on the south fringe of Sambisa Forest.”
According to him, the development followed marching orders issued to troops by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar. The spokesman explained that an early morning airstrike was also conducted by the Air Component of OPHK at Shuwa in Kala Balge Local Council of Borno State.
Noting that intelligence reports revealed that terrorists had converged in the area ahead of plans to attack troops on patrol in the axis, he explained that the airstrike was to clear the remnant of terrorists and other criminals operating in the Bama-Mafa axis.
Gabkwet further disclosed: “Additional intelligence also revealed that the same group of terrorists had perfected plans to attack troops stationed at Rann in Kala/Balge Local Council.”
Consequently, he said, the air strikes neutralised many terrorists and destroyed their make-shift camps in the forest. He, therefore, urged the Air Component commanders in all joint operating theatres to sustain the momentum of routing all remnants of terrorists.
