Morocco, Pakistan Strengthen Security Cooperation, Boost Efforts to Combat Terrorism
Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, received in Rabat today Salman Chaudhry, Acting Inspector General of Police at Pakistan’s Ministry of the Interior.
Leading a high-level security delegation, Chaudhry met with Hammouchi to discuss the need to strengthen the ongoing security collaboration between Morocco and Pakistan.
They notably explored opportunities to broaden their partnership’s scope and extend it to new areas as well as their shared desire to tackle security challenges more effectively.
A key focus of the talks was the fight against human trafficking and illegal migration, particularly following a recent tragedy off the coast of Dakhla, where a boat carrying Pakistani migrants capsized which resulted in several deaths.
Chaudhry expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Moroccan authorities on behalf of the Pakistani government, acknowledging their prompt and efficient rescue operations, which safeguarded several Pakistani citizens who had fallen victim to an international human trafficking network.
The two officials also acknowledged the growing terrorist threats facing both countries, agreeing on the urgent need to bolster counterterrorism cooperation, particularly given their proximity to regions where groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS remain active.
The meeting provided a platform to discuss practical steps for enhancing security collaboration, such as sharing best practices and intelligence.
This cooperation also looks to address emerging security challenges and ensure the safety of both nations and their citizens.
The visit stands as a testimony to the strong security partnership between Morocco and Pakistan and their shared commitment to combating terrorism and transnational crime on the global stage.
It also reinforces Morocco’s dedication to international efforts focused on preserving regional and global stability as the North African country is constantly trying to consolidate its expertise in counterterrorism and security through strengthened international partnerships.
By collaborating with global allies, Morocco seeks to exchange knowledge, share intelligence, and improve best practices in order to reinforce its national security and contribute to global efforts against transnational threats.
