Moroccan preacher issues fatwa against men wearing tight jeans during prayers
A Muslim preacher from Morocco has issued a ruling against men wearing tight jeans during prayers, because they enhanced the appearance of their rear during prostration.
Hassan Kettani urged Muslim men to avoid tight garments in prayer, adding that it made their rear appear “hideous”.
“Among the mistakes that people make when praying [is] wearing tight clothes, during sujud [prostration], their rear appears in a hideous manner”, the statement published on Kettani’s Facebook page read.
Kettani has been described as an ideological leader of al-Qaeda linked Salafia Jihadia, based in Morocco and Spain. He has spoken out against Western influence in Moroccan society and most of his views are regarded as extreme by many, including the security services in Morocco.
In 2003, he was imprisoned for connection to the 2003 Casablanca bombing, but was later pardoned after eight years of efforts by his lawyer, human rights groups and Islamists in Morocco’s parliament.
