Moroccan authorities detain six-member ISIS terrorist cell in the city of Tangier
The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) of Morocco, under the general directorate for territory surveillance (DGST), has dismantled a terrorist cell made up of six extremists linked to the Islamic State (Daesh) group, who were operating in the city of Tangier, about 250 kilometres northeast of here.
The Interior ministry disclosed in a statement here Wednesday that investigations revealed that the elements of this cell, led by an ex-convict in a terrorism case, are involved in assaults against several people in Tangier, using knives, sticks and hoods.
The same source noted that the individuals, aged between 22 and 42, who were atrrested Tuesday, had links with the terrorist network of Daesh which was dismantled on Feb 1 in Tangier and Meknes and which was planning attacks aimed at seriously undermining the security and stability of the Kingdom.
A search operation resulted in the seizure of knives of various sizes, sticks, a metal chain, military clothing and electronic equipment.
The suspects will be brought to justice upon the completion of the investigation, led under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, the statement added.
