Serbian Interior Minister: Almost 50 Serbian citizens have joined ISIS terrorist group
Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said that the security situation in Serbia is positive, with police, security services and prosecution actively working on eliminating any terrorist threats.
A total of 49 people from Serbia left the country to fight for ISIS terror group, Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said Sunday.
“Some of them died, some of them are still there [on ISIS-controlled territories]. That is not such a big figure compared to other European countries, but things like that are always concerning and well-timed exchanges of information are the only way to protect ourselves,” the minister told the Serbian Pink broadcaster in an interview.
According to Stefanovic, the security situation in Serbia is positive, with police, security services and prosecution actively working on eliminating any terrorist threats.
“Serbia is one of the safest countries in Europe,” the interior minister added.
The ISIS is a terrorist organization that seized territories in Iraq and Syria, and is also present in a number of other countries such as Libya and Afghanistan. The group has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly terror attacks across the world over recent years.
