Man from Manchester charged with two others with terror offences
A Manchester man has been charged – along with two others – with terror offences following police raids.
Officers held three suspects on December 30 as part of a planned operation in Manchester, Peterborough and north London.
The Metropolitan Police have now said the men have been been charged with offences under the Terrorism Act.
Mohamed Ismail, 23, from north London, is accused of two counts of disseminating a terrorist publication, while Muhammed Tahir, 19, from Peterborough, faces one count of the same offence.
Mohammed Saeed, 21, from Manchester, was charged with five counts of possessing an article suspected to be for a purpose connected to terrorism.
The three men will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
A fourth man, aged 22, who was arrested in north London as part of the same investigation, has been released with no further action.
The full Metropolitan Police statement reads: “Three men have been charged with terrorism offences following an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command with support from Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) unit and the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) CTP colleagues.
“Mohammed Saeed, 21 (25.03.98) of Manchester, was charged with five offences contrary to section 57(1) of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2000: possessing an article in circumstances which give rise to a reasonable suspicion that the possession is for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.
“Mohamed Ismail, 23 (11.06.96) of north London, was charged with two offences contrary to section 2 of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2006: on suspicion of disseminating a terrorist publication.
“Muhammed Tahir, 19 (17.06.00) of Peterborough, was charged with one offence contrary to section 2 of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2006: on suspicion of disseminating a terrorist publication.
“On 30 December 2019, the three men were arrested as part of a planned operation. They were subsequently charged with the above offences.
“A 22-year-old man arrested in north London as part of the same operation on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism under Section 40(1)(b) Terrorism Act (TACT) 2000, was released with no further action.
“The three men charged will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 13 January.”
