Man arrested on suspicion of engaging in preparing acts of terrorism
A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of engaging in preparing acts of terrorism.
South Wales Police arrested the man at a house in Cyncoed, Cardiff on Sunday morning under the Terrorism Act following concerns reported by a resident.
A spokesman for the force confirmed on Monday that the man was arrested under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, on suspicion of engaging in preparing acts of terrorism.
He was also held on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.
A force spokesman said the incident was being investigated jointly with the officers from the Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit.
Detective Superintendent Noel Harris, head of the counter terrorism unit, said: “There is no cause for concern amongst the local community and no evidence to suggest otherwise.
“However, I want to take this opportunity to remind our communities to remain vigilant and report any concerns to ensure that Wales remains a safe place to live.”
Police received the call around 7am on Sunday and most of Lakeside Drive, where the arrest took place, remained closed off by the police for much of the day.
