Man armed with knife stabbed six people at mosque in Tirana

The imam of the mosque on Rruga e Kavajes where 6 people were stabbed in the serious incident today afternoon, stated that that the situation is now under control.

With tears in his eyes and a trembling voice, Imam Ahmed Kalaja described the event as an “act of barbarism”, adding that he hoped it not be a terrorist attack.

“Today after lunch, around 14:00, a barbaric act took place in the ‘Dine Hoxha’ mosque, where a man armed with a knife stabbed believers inside the mosque, and also hit people outside on the street. Fortunately the person has been arrested.

“I thank all those believers who have reacted positively to the situation. We hope it was not a terrorist act, but a mentally handicapped person. I hope that within a few hours, the mosque will return to normal state. May the Almighty God remove from us people with problems who want to disturb the tranquility of the holy month of Ramadan. Several brothers were injured, but also some believers who were worshiping God in those moments”, said among others Kalaja.
