Famous Malaysian-Australian male model killed fighting for ISIS

Australia’s intelligence agency has confirmed the death of Malaysian-Australian former part-time model Amirrudin Hud Rashid Milson, who joins more than 220 Australians who have left to fight for ISIS overseas, reports the South China Morning Post.

In 2010, Amirrudin Hud Rashid Milson was voted Malaysia’s most eligible bachelor by popular women’s magazine Cleo. The half-Malaysian half-Australian mass communications graduate and part-time model hoped to become a TV presenter but ended up dead in 2016 while fighting for ISIS in Syria, the paper said.

An Australian daily reported that Amirrudin, who went by Amir, stepped on a landmine while carrying another terrorist in Syria. His death was confirmed by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).

Australian media reports that of the more than 220 Australians who have left to fight for ISIS overseas, to date 68 have been killed.

In an attempt to grapple with the country’s metastasizing Muslim population, Australia’s government has instituted “Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) programs” with “security and intelligence wings” that produce statistics. They report “an increase in violent activity from both left- and right-wing extremist groups”, and believe “several hundred” Australians advocate “violent Islamist ideologies”.
