Ex-officer of armed forces of Malaysia sentenced to 7 years in prison for having ties with ISIS terrorists
Ex officer of the armed forces of Malaysia has been sentenced 7 years imprisonment for ties with the terror organization of Islamic state (ISIS), reports The Straits Times.
“A retired captain of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) was sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the High Court on Tuesday (Feb 6) for providing financial services through his bank account to an individual linked to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS),” reads the publication.
Justice Mohd Sofian Abd Razak meted out the sentence to Azuddin Mahmud, 54, after he pleaded guilty to letting his Maybank account be used by Mohamed Danny Mohamed Jedi and his brother Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi, 27, a member of militant group ISIS.
The former air force officer committed the offence – involving credit and debit transactions of RM3,500 (S$1,183) – between Jan 27, 2016 and Jan 29, 2016. The court ordered Azuddin’s sentence to run from his arrest on June 25, 2017.
