Lebanese police authorities detain ISIS suicide attack plotter
Lebanese police have arrested today a Lebanese man accused of planning a suicide attack on behalf of the Islamic State (IS), while President Michel Aoun discussed the anti-terrorist strategy with a high-ranking US military official.
According to security sources, authorities have arrested a Lebanese citizen who confessed to being closely linked with ISIS, and met with terrorist Osama Mansour while was trained with ‘religious lessons’ at the Abdullah Bin Masoud mosque.
The IS suicide attack plotter said that he had joined the terrorist group, headed by Mansour, was militarily trained and ordered to monitor the Lebanese Army´s activities in order to carry out future terrorist attacks.
However, in the interrogations with the security forces he acknowledged that he was ordered to carry out a terrorist act inside the Lebanese territory, he said.
On the other hand, the increasing terrorist attacks in Syria-bordered Lebanese regions and the response made by the Lebanese Army and security forces were the most important issues debated by President Aoun with US Central Command Gen. Joseph L Votel.
Mr. Aoun, who welcomed Gen. Votel at the presidential palace of Baabda, stressed that Lebanon ‘is determined to fight terrorist organizations and unearth all cells of terror.’
The Lebanese Army is still conducting air and ground attacks against such jihadist terrorist groups, by causing a great number of casualties among terrorists, he said, stressing that preventive military operations are being executed with high competition and precision.
