ISIS fighter bemoans ‘hard’ life in Raqqa after leaving Porsche and lawyer lifestyle in UK
A British Islamic State (ISIS) fighter now living in Syria is a Porsche driving, married barrister from Birmingham, it can be revealed.
Abu Adam Al-Britani was a practising barrister in London, who later became a solicitor specialising in immigration law.
The 39-year-old ran a succession of successful law firms, including one in Harrow, northwest London, and boasted he earned top salaries for his work.
But four years ago he quit his life in Britain, which he described as “a country of dogs”, and left his profession behind to start a new life in Syria with death cult ISIS.
However last week, Al-Britani posted a 72 minute long video online in which he moaned about how hard life is in Raqqa and complained about US forces breaking up the ISIS stronghold.
In the tape, posted on the encrypted messaging app Telegram, the barrister-turned-jihadi talks about his old life in the UK, saying: “I was not a loser.”
And he boasted he made more money in a day than most people make in a month, adding: “I had a Porsche, I was doing very well in my life.
“I was looking forward to saving up to buy a villa and a Lamborghini.”
In the pitiful rant, he said life was so bleak stray cats and dogs had become fat by feasting on “dead human flesh”.
And he bemoaned how the ISIS stronghold in which he lived with his wife and toddler son had been “obliterated” in coalition air strikes, as he said US-backed forces were now closing in on him and his fellow militants.
Al-Britani is thought to be among the last 300 ISIS fighters remaining in Raqqa – a city whose fall is expected to be imminent.
But while he claimed the streets around his hide-out were littered with dead bodies, he also claimed: “I would not trade the place I am in for any other place in the world.”
It is unclear what prompted the successful barrister to give up his life, though he said he came to regard his UK existence as “rubbish”.
Friends and neighbours say Al-Britani, who has a conviction for drink driving, was held in high esteem, with many describing him in glowing terms.
One neighbour said: “He’s a lovely man and very humble. He would always be willing to help you with advice.
“He is not lying when he says he earned more in a day than many do in a month and he drove a silver Porsche. It was a Boxster.”
However close friends said when the 39-year-old had last returned to Britain, where tried to encourage his former pals to “join him in jihad”.
A former acquaintance said: “He and his wife came back here the Ramadan before last and he kept talking about how everything in this country was haram (forbidden).
“After that I heard he was texting friends here on the Telegram service and telling them to come and join him on jihad.”
