Three ISIS leaders captured in the Nineveh province
The Iraqi forces managed to capture three Islamic State (IS) leaders in the province of Nineveh on Sunday.
The trio was arrested by a security force in Nineveh while attempting to infiltrate into the town of Qayara, southern Nineveh, from the al-Jazirah area, according to Iraqi reports.
Among the three insurgents was Abu Azhar al-Afri who was a senior official in the Islamic State, a security source was quoted as explaining.
The Islamic State has been declared defeated in both Iraq and Syria, but the extremist group’s sleeper cells are still active in the two neighbouring countries’ liberated areas.
