Eight ISIS terror leaders captured in Kirkuk
The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday the arrest of eight leaders of the Islamic State (IS) in the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk.
A spokesperson for the ministry, Major General Saad Maan, told BasNews that the arrested had been wanted by the police over several terrorist activities against the national forces and civilians in the province.
Islamic State was declared defeated last year, while its sleeper cells are still active in most liberated areas in Iraq.
The extremist group, seizing the absence of the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga fighters in the disputed Kurdish territories, have kidnapped about 20 civilians in the areas in the past few days.
