SDF, Iraqi-Kurdish forces carry out joint operation against ISIS

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the anti-terror units of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq carried out an operation against the Islamic State (ISIS) on Saturday in Syria’s Hasakah.

“Yesterday, Saturday, the Anti-Terrorism Units of the Syrian Democratic Forces, together with the Anti-Terrorism Service of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the Global Coalition, managed to dismantle an active cell of the terrorist organisation ISIS consisting of four mercenaries working to support and supply the organisation’s cells, weapons and military equipment,” the SDF’s media centre announced on Sunday.

According to war watchdog Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, helicopters of the US-led international coalition fighting against ISIS also joined the operation.

The operation came a day after Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the SDF, survived an explosion in Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan. The explosion was reportedly caused by a Turkish drone attack which targeted a convoy that included US military personnel.

Abdi said they had “joint operations rooms with Counter-Terrorism agencies of the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with the Global Coalition’s knowledge,” in Sulaymaniyah, in an interview with the North Press after the attack at airport.
