ISIS kidnapped and beheads Kurdish civilians in Khanaqin
Islamic State (IS) militants attacked a Kurdish village in vicinity of Khanaqin district, north of Diyala province, overnight on Sunday and kidnapped four Kurdish civilians, a source said.
The beheaded bodies of the victims were later found outside the Yousif Bag village, the source confirmed to BasNews.
Among the victims is a Peshmerga.
Khanaqin is a disputed Kurdish territory that is now under the control of the Iraqi army and Iranian-backed militias of Hashd al-Shaabi.
Even though Iraqi prime minister declared the entirety of Iraqi territories liberated from IS last year, the extremist group maintains presence in certain areas, and it continues its terrorist activities.
