Two IS-Khorasan militants killed in Kabul raid
In an overnight raid in the Kabul capital city of Afghanistan, Taliban security forces killed two Islamic State of Khorasan group militants; they captured a third, according to a government spokesman on Monday.
The Islamic State, also known as the Islamic State in Khorasan province, is the main adversary of the de facto government led by the Taliban.
According to Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban government spokesperson, the operation was conducted in a residential area and targeted IS terrorists who were preparing to organize strikes in the capital city of Kabul.
After the Taliban seized control of the country in August 2021, the militant group has increased its attacks targeting Taliban forces, citizens, foreign nationals and properties.
Last week, a suicide bombing occurred in Faizabad city of Badakhshan; a day before, an explosion was reported in the Taloqan capital city of Takhar province; at least four people were killed, and several others were injured.
In addition, insecurity has increased in the neighbouring country, Pakistan. As a result, a high Pakistani delegation came to Kabul last week to discuss IS-Khorasan and TTP militants.
Meanwhile, operations against IS-K and other terrorists have been stepped up by Afghanistan’s de facto government. Abu Osman, a Kashmiri senior associated with the IS-K, was recently killed in Afghanistan’s Kunar region during an operation.
Since the return of the Taliban to power in the country, the IS-Khorasan group has been the main security challenge and adversary to the government amid a severe humanitarian crisis in the country.
