Kazakhstan prevents two terrorist attacks in 2024
President Kassym-Joomart Tokayev received Chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan Ermek Sagimbayev, the presidential press service reports.
The head of state was informed about the results of the Committee’s work on countering terrorism and religious extremism since the beginning of 2024.
Two terrorist attacks have been prevented, including one abroad together with foreign partners, since the beginning of the year.
26 practitioners of radical religious ideology were convicted of terrorist and extremist activities in criminal cases investigated by the National Security Committee. Pre-trial investigations are ongoing against another 22 persons.
139 foreign citizens were not allowed to enter the country. More than 280 foreign citizens were deported from Kazakhstan due to extremist views.
Over 190 attempts to smuggle prohibited religious literature into the country were stopped, 19 foreign citizens were brought to justice.
237 firearms, 27 explosive devices, more than 4,500 pieces of ammunition and other weapons were seized from illegal trafficking.
Mora than 340 anti-terrorism exercises have been organized. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Security Committee conducted about 3,400 inspections of government and other facilities, including crowded places.
