Israel-Hamas War Live Updates: ‘We have destroyed 20 of Hamas’ 24 battalions so far,’ says Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will “stand alone” if it has to in its war against Hamas. His remarks in a statement issued Thursday came after President Joe Biden said the United States would not provide offensive weapons for Israel’s long-promised assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
This statement came after the US did not provide weapons to Rafah. The ambassador of Israel to the United Nations expressed disappointment on Thursday regarding the threat from US President Joe Biden to halt specific arms supplies to Israel in case of an invasion of the densely populated Gaza city of Rafah.
“This is a difficult and very disappointing statement to hear from a president to whom we have been grateful since the beginning of the war,” Gilad Erdan told Israeli public broadcaster Kan radio, in Israel’s first reaction to Biden’s warning.
Israel has defied international objections by sending in tanks and conducting “targeted raids’ in the border city, which it says is home to Hamas’s last remaining battalions — but is also crowded with displaced Palestinian civilians.
