Bomb left by Islamic State terrorists in Anbar killed one civilian and wounded two others
A civilian was killed and two others were wounded Wednesday as a bomb exploded in the Iraqi province of Anbar, a security source said.
“An explosive charge planted by Islamic State militants went off in Ar-Rutbah town in western Anbar, leaving a civilian dead and two others wounded,” the source told Iraqi news website Almaalomah.
“A security force rushed to the blast site and sealed off all roads leading to it,” the source pointed out.
Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
A total of 90 Iraqi civilians were killed, while 117 others were injured due to acts of violence and terrorism during the month of August, according to the monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
