Two Islamic State terrorist group members arrested in Mosul
Two members of Islamic State were arrested Sunday in the eastern side of Mosul, the Iraqi Security Media Center said as security campaigns continue nationwide in search of extremists.
“A force from the Nineveh Operations Command arrested two IS militants in al-Ma’mon district in the eastern side of Mosul,” al-Madar news website quoted the center as saying in a statement.
Security forces also seized two explosive belts and five bombs during security operations in Atshana Mountains and the old city of Mosul, the statement added.
Former Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi announced in July 2017 liberation of the second largest Iraqi city of Mosul from IS militants, who had captured it in 2014. More than 25,000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October 2016.
